How to Choose the Right Plastic Bottle

Choosing a plastic bottle comes down to four decisions: material, volume, neck (closure) size, and cap type. Get these right and your product fills, seals and ships without surprises.

1. Pick the material

The two workhorses for most products are HDPE and PET:

MaterialLooksBest forNotes
HDPEOpaqueCleaners, chemicals, cosmetics, foodExcellent chemical resistance; not see-through
PETClear/glossyDrinks, oils, supplements, cosmeticsGreat clarity; lighter; widely recycled

If you need to show the product (a clear juice, a serum), choose PET. If you need chemical resistance or an opaque look, choose HDPE.

2. Size the volume

Buy by the actual fill volume, not the "brim-full" capacity. A "500 ml" bottle is usually sized to fill 500 ml with a little headspace left for the closure and thermal expansion. If you fill hot or carbonate, leave more headspace.

3. Match the neck (closure) size

The neck finish — written like 24/410 or 28/400 — is the single most common ordering mistake. The first number is the neck diameter in mm; the second is the thread style. Your cap, pump or sprayer must share the same neck finish as the bottle, or it won't seal.

  • Buying caps and bottles together (as we bundle them) removes this risk.
  • If you already own closures, tell us the neck finish and we'll match the bottle.

4. Choose the cap

  • Screw cap — simplest, most secure for shipping.
  • Flip-top / disc-top — one-handed dosing for cosmetics and cleaners.
  • Pump / trigger sprayer — lotions, sprays, cleaners.
  • Tamper-evident — required for many food and pharma products.

Ordering in bulk

FUMERO bottles are sold in bulk with the cap bundled, priced ex-VAT with quantity-break discounts that fall as volume rises. Prices are charged in EUR across the EU; VAT is added at checkout for consumers, and valid-VIES B2B buyers outside France get reverse-charge 0%.

Not sure which bottle fits your fill? Browse the range or contact us with your product and volume and we'll recommend a neck finish and cap.
